Toads | What is Toad in the Hole?
Toads is a pub game that has been going for ages! With similar variations such as the Basque 'La Rana' or the traditional East English game 'Pitch Penny' which can be traced as far as 1744 all these games enlist the simple principle of throwing coins to/into a specific target.
Toads itself originated in Lewes, Sussex & it's seen as the home of the sport, because of this there is a world championships contested in the town every year. With Brighton being close-by there has been a large and growing enthusiasm for the game in the city with a 2-tier league played by various pub teams. More information about the league can be found at Toader.co.uk
Rules
Everyone starts on 31 and you win by competing down to 0, if you score more than 0 you go bust and don't get any points that turn.
2 points for getting a toad in the hole
1 for landing on the lead
0 if the toad touches the backboard or slides off at any point
The first player throws two toads, the second three and following this it's four for every round until your down to 3 points
Once you need 3 points or less you can only play with as many toads as there are points. So if you needed 2 points you'd only play with 2 toads.
